On 26/09/2024, we departed from our college at 9 PM for a two-day industrial visit designed to provide us with practical exposure to various industries related to our field of study in Biomedical Engineering. The visit took place in Coimbatore and Ooty, where we engaged with key players in the biomedical sector and explored local attractions. This report outlines our experiences at each location and the knowledge gained during the trip.

DAY 1 AT COIMBATORE

Check-In at Hotel

Upon arriving in Coimbatore, we checked into our hotel, which served as our base for the trip. After settling in and having breakfast, we prepared for our first industrial visit.

IATOME Industry

Our first stop was IATOME Industry, a well-known company specializing in biomedical devices especially in X-ray machines. During the visit, we were given a comprehensive tour of the manufacturing unit.

• Product Overview: We learned about various X-ray machines and their manufacturing

techniques.

• Manufacturing Process: The production process was detailed, showcasing quality control measures and compliance with safety standards.
• Innovations: The company emphasized ongoing research and development, illustrating how they stay ahead in technology.

The visit provided us with insights into the practical applications of our studies, highlighting the significance of innovation in the biomedical field.

Prashan Medical Instrumentation Company

Next, we visited Prashan Medical Instrumentation Company, known for its contributions to medical device manufacturing.

Key Highlights:

• Product Range: We explored various medical instruments used in hospitals, including surgical tools and monitoring devices.
• Career Guidance: The professionals shared their career paths and offered valuable advice for aspiring biomedical engineers.
• Practical sessions: They allowed us to check our own colleagues blood pressure, SPO2, heart rate and so on using monitoring devices.

This visit underscored the importance of quality and precision in medical instrumentation, essential for patient safety and care.

Evening at Brookefield Mall

After our industrial visits, we took some time to relax and unwind at Brookefield Mall. This provided a great opportunity for team bonding, shopping, and enjoying local cuisine. The mall's vibrant atmosphere contrasted nicely with our educational day.

Day Two: Exploring Ooty Visit to the Tea Factory

Our first stop was a local tea factory, where we learned about the tea production process. The tour was informative, taking us through the various stages from plucking the leaves to the final packaging. We were fascinated by the machinery and the meticulous care that goes into producing high-quality tea. At the end of the tour, we had the opportunity to sample different varieties of tea, which was a delightful treat for all of us.

Visit to the Chocolate Factory

Next, we made our way to a nearby chocolate factory. This stop was particularly exciting for the sweet-toothed among us! We were greeted with the rich aroma of chocolate as we entered. The factory tour included a demonstration of the chocolate-making process, and we even got to create our own chocolate bars. This hands- on experience was not only fun but also a delicious highlight of the day!
